BLACKHORSE ROAD, LONDON

2016

This project on a London Trams rail bridge utilised several of the services available here at Malcolm Hughes, highlighting our expertise in a variety of areas.

Malcolm Hughes was approached by Pell Frischmann (one of the UK’s leading consulting engineers) to provide a survey of a London Trams rail bridge with suspected structural and water leakage issues.

As well as requiring PTS (Personal Track Safety) certificates, our surveyors had to gain a ‘pink ticket’ certificate for access to the London Tram network to be able to carry out the survey work. The survey involved scanning the bridge from both sides and surrounding areas to provide a point cloud and 3D model for the client.

Because of the issue around water leakage, we were also requested to carry out a topographical and underground utility mapping survey of the road area above the bridge, with the area necessary for surveying extending 100m either side. This included a GPR (Ground-Penetrating Radar) survey so we could identify the services required on this extensive project.

The delivery was a 3D model of the bridge, along with the services in the road above. Following this work, the Malcolm Hughes team was awarded further similar survey work and a six-month monitoring project in a basement of a Land Securities building in central London.
