JORDANHILL COLLEGE CAMPUS, GLASGOW

2017

Loy Surveys were commissioned to carry out measured building survey work for a residential development at the former Jordanhill College Campus in Glasgow.

The client, a major nationwide builder, proposed a £94m development to convert some of the University of Strathclyde’s Jordanhill Campus buildings at the former Teacher Training College into high-quality apartments.

Initially developed as a country estate in the 16th century, the site consisted of the iconic three storey B-Listed David Stow building, which was built in 1922, as well as the smaller Graham House and Douglas House. The David Stow building sits in an elevated position and is constructed of Dumfries sandstone with stunning green copper spires, with an elegant neo-classical entrance hallway and large-volume teaching spaces.

The client required the results of the measured building survey delivered as a 3D model in REVIT format. The Loy Surveys survey teams used the latest state-of-the-art laser scanners to acquire the high level of detail required, even including things such as decorative wood panelling and ornate plasterwork.

It took around one month onsite to gather all of the necessary data, and then the hard work of digitising the detail from the unified point cloud began. After another couple of months, the survey was successfully delivered in REVIT format to our client.

We’re looking forward to seeing this iconic site restored as a local landmark in 2018, reinstating the visual prominence of this historic building and maintaining its heritage and identity for generations to come.
