Experienced utility mapping surveyors are required in Central Scotland

Do you have 5 years+ experience and have a talent in any of the following:

  • Experience in all utility survey techniques, EML/GPR

Malcolm Hughes Land Surveyors Limited is currently looking to recruit an experienced Quality Checker to join their team and help contribute to their ongoing success.

The Quality Checker is responsible for reviewing topographical, measured building and utility survey data in various formats and in both 2D and 3D.

As the Quality Checker you will be confirming the quality of survey deliverables against the specification and field data for many of our prestigious projects prior to approving them for release to the client.

At the same time you will be monitoring the overall quality of surveyor’s and CAD Operators’ work and reporting your findings to the Quality System Manager. You’ll provide regular feedback on performance to CAD Operators, Surveyors and management to promote continuous improvement.

If you have a diverse surveying background (preferably including utility detection surveys), are highly focused, self-motivated, take pride in maintaining a quality service and can communicate well with a team, you’re going to find this a hugely rewarding role.

The key elements of the job are:

  • Day to day quality checking of survey deliverables
  • Recording of all discrepancies and reporting regular occurrences to management for further review
  • providing timely, clear and concise feedback to CAD operators and surveyors
  • facilitating a fast turnaround of completed projects

Experience and skills required:

Essential:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience of surveying large projects.
  • Working knowledge of PAS128 and modern survey practices and requirements.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to a team of surveyors and CAD operators with varied experience.

Preferred:

  • Land and Engineering Surveying/Utility Surveying qualification equivalent to A-Level or higher.
  • Previous experience of Quality checking of survey deliverables against specifications and standards.
  • Experience with 3D modelling.
  • Familiarity with RICS and TSA specifications.

The Locations: Malcolm Hughes Land Surveyors Ltd. has offices based in Manchester, Swansea, Rugby and Scotland. The position will be based at either Sale (Manchester) or Rugby depending on applicants location.

You will be undertaking various surveys – topographical, measured building, engineering, monitoring etc under the direction of the senior surveyor and management. Although the majority of our work is based in central Scotland you should have a willingness to travel in order to meet the needs of the business.

As a candidate you should have the following

  • 2/3 years+ experience undertaking a variety of survey projects.
  • Experience in undertaking topographic surveys both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Experience using Trimble Total Stations and GNSS equipment.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD software.
  • Ability to use your initiative, problem solve and work to deadlines.
  • Have pride and passion for high quality survey work and customer service.

The following skills would be an advantage but are not essential:

  • Experience of undertaking measured building surveys.
  • Experience of undertaking utility mapping surveys.
  • Experience working within a rail environment undertaking various survey tasks (gauging, track survey etc)
  • Experience of using Carlson survey software.
  • Experience of using Star*net traverse adjustment software.
  • Working knowledge of laser scanners and modelling software.
  • Experience of managing projects from “field to finish” liasing with clients at all stages of the survey.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work to a high degree of accuracy, with strong communication, negotiating and presentation skills and be able to work as part of a dynamic, driven team. You will be expected to project manage surveys from field to finish, liase with clients and organise your workload under the supervision of the survey manager and senior project surveyor.

The successful candidate will be self motivated with strong communication, negotiating and presentation skills. They will work well as part of a team and be able to take instructions from senior management and senior surveyors. You will be expected to progress quickly from graduate surveyor to land surveyor, full training will be provided.
