Land and Measured Building Surveyor – Midlands
Professional, ambitious, and self-motivated individuals required to join our team as we look to grow our service offering.
Malcolm Hughes is one of the leading survey companies in the UK. We operate from offices around the UK and offer our clients genuine nationwide coverage.
Suitable candidates should have at least 3-5 years’ experience working as a Land Surveyor with a strong understanding of the technical requirements of the role and a robust work ethic.
In addition, the following attributes are essential:
- Working knowledge and able to demonstrate correct use of Total Station, Laser Scanners and GNSS.
- Experience in taking projects from ‘field to finish’ liaising with clients on requirements/specification and providing professional advice.
- Proficient in the creation of technical survey reports.
- Experience of working with teams of less experienced surveyors, adopting a coaching and mentoring style.
- Effective communication skills.
- Able to work well and contribute as part of a team.
- Ability to use your initiative, problem solve and work to deadlines.
- Good time keeping.
- Flexibility to work away from home for periods and accommodate various shift patterns when required (such as night shift etc).
- A committed attitude and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced industry.
- A full UK driving licence.

Job Overview:
As a member of the administrative team at Malcolm Hughes, you will play an important role in the smooth running of our office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing administrative support to the directors, surveyors, and wider team
- Managing incoming calls, emails, and correspondence
- Maintaining accurate records of projects, logging enquires and managing initial project administration.
- Raising purchase orders, invoices, and track job costs where required
- Coordinating team schedules, meetings, and office logistics
- Ensuring compliance with health & safety and company procedures
- Welcoming visitors and act as the first point of contact for clients
- Conducting desktop utility searches to support survey planning
- Arranging travel and accommodation (flights, ferries, trains, hotels) for surveyors working away
- Managing company expense and reconcile monthly statements
- Completing new supplier onboarding forms and maintain electronic/online portals
- Coordinating training for surveyors as required
- Scheduling and overseeing general office maintenance (e.g., plumbing, electrical, roofing)
Key Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience as a receptionist, front desk representative, or similar role or a demonstrable willingness to learn.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other office software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities.
- Professional appearance and demeanour.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications:
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
