Structural Monitoring Support on Renfrew Bridge Recognised by NCE Bridges Awards

We are proud to have contributed to the Renfrew Bridge project, which has been shortlisted for Road Bridge Project of the Year at the New Civil Engineer Bridges Awards 2026.

Renfrew Bridge is a major crossing over the River Clyde, improving connectivity between Renfrew and Yoker while providing dedicated routes for public transport, pedestrians and cyclists. The scheme represents a significant achievement in modern bridge engineering and collaborative delivery.

Our involvement centred on continuous manual monitoring of the bridge superstructure and deck during the staged tensioning programme, a critical phase in the construction process. Working directly with Smulders, following a recommendation from GRAHAM Civil Engineering, we verified structural behaviour throughout the works.

This included repeated inspection and measurement of deflections, rotations and geometric alignment as the stay cables and associated elements were incrementally stressed over a two‑month period. These monitoring activities ensured that the structure performed in line with the specified load path and profile tolerances at each stage of the operation.

The successful delivery of this phase provided confidence in the structural performance of the bridge during a key construction milestone.

We are delighted to see the project recognised at a national level and congratulate H&H, Roughan & O’Donovan, GRAHAM Civil Engineering, Smulders, and the wider project team on this achievement.
