Recently, our team was pleased to use that experience a little differently by supporting the Bramble Woods project in Catterick. 

As part of our social value work with Amey and e50K, Malcolm Hughes provided a topographical survey of the site free of charge, contributing the same surveying expertise we bring to our day-to-day projects to support an important community initiative. 

Bramble Woods is a community site at Catterick Garrison which is being transformed into an inclusive, free-to-access green space for local schools, defence families, community organisations, and the wider community. 

Led by e50K, the project brings together organisations and volunteers to help develop a space focused on accessibility, sustainability, learning, and community use. Plans for Bramble Woods include an expanded allotment area with more than 100 community planters and an outdoor classroom for educational sessions and events.

Improving accessibility around the site is another important part of the project. Bramble Woods supports injured and disabled service personnel and their families, with future works intended to improve access around the site. This will include paths suitable for wheelchair users and those using other wheeled mobility aids. 

This is where Malcolm Hughes was able to lend its expertise. 

By carrying out a topographical survey of Bramble Woods, our team provided an accurate record of the existing site to help inform the next stages of the planned improvement works.

Surveying has been at the heart of what we do at Malcolm Hughes for close to five decades, and while much has changed in terms of technology and techniques, providing reliable information that helps others make informed decisions remains fundamental to what we do. 

Being able to apply that experience to Bramble Woods was a simple but practical way for us to contribute to the wider project. 

We were pleased to support Amey and e50K, and to play a small part in the continued development of a space designed to be enjoyed by the Catterick community for years to come.
